Low-noise wideband ultrasound detection using polymer microring resonators.
Polymer microring resonators for low-noise, wideband ultrasound detection are presented. Using a nanoimprinting technique, we fabricated polymer microring resonators with a quality factor of 6000 resulting in high sensitivity to ultrasound. A noise-equivalent pressure of 0.23 kPa over 1-75 MHz and a detection bandwidth of over 90 MHz at -3 dB were measured. These results demonstrate the potenti...
متن کاملHigh-sensitivity and wide-directivity ultrasound detection using high Q polymer microring resonators.
Small size ultrahigh Q polymer microrings working at near visible wavelength have been experimentally demonstrated as ultralow noise ultrasound detectors with wide directivity at high frequencies (>20 MHz). By combining a resist reflow and a low bias continuous etching and passivation process in mold fabrication, imprinted polymer microrings with drastically improved sidewall smoothness were ob...

متن کاملAdiabatic microring resonators.
A class of whispering-gallery-mode resonators, herein referred to as adiabatic microring resonators, is proposed and numerically demonstrated. Adiabatic microrings enable electrical and mechanical contact to be made to the resonator without inducing radiation, while supporting only a single radial mode and therein achieving an uncorrupted free spectral range (FSR). Rigorous finite-difference ti...
متن کاملNonlinear frequency combs generated by cnoidal waves in microring resonators
Cnoidal waves are the periodic analog of solitons. Like solitons, they can be generated in microresonators and correspond to frequency combs. The generation of frequency combs in nonlinear microresonators is modeled by the Lugiato–Lefever equation. In this paper, we study the Lugiato–Lefever equation for a microresonator in the anomalous dispersion regime. In the lossless case, we show that the...
